The favourite skyrunners’ distance and trail will go through a slight change in 2020. There is no better trail for those who want to go for their first ultra or simply enjoy the beauties of Stara planina. This distance is twice as easy as sky race but it is not to be underestimated. Our device has calculated 3.150 m of ascent, however the ITRA site has reduced it.
Length and height:
There is a total of 64 km sa 2.650 m of ascent and descent.
Start of the race
The start of the race is scheduled for June 6, 2020 (Saturday) from Jabučko ravnište (Stara Hotel) at 7AM together with the runners at 99 km race.
The trail is almost 80% the same as the old one at 57 km, however this one is extended and has a different direction. The path leads you up the ski trail across the peak of Babin zub and at the very start you will have 2.5 km of ascent. The descent also follows the ski trail by the Plaža Restaurant. There is no control point here any more at the first pass. You can use water, but no refill. After that you will come to the macadam path leading downhill to the village of Topli Do where CP-1 will be set – a distance of some 14 km (refreshments, control point). After that you head to Beleđe where there is now only a “live crossroad” (point with volunteers directing you further) and descend to Belčin dol where the main “life base” in the mountain will be set. This is the CP-2 at the 33rd km, so get ready for the long section. At this control point the time limit is 8 hours from the start. There you will have a drop bag, massage and warm food. From there you go uphill to Međa planina after which you will come beneath the first peak where you will find “live crossroad”, turn left towards Vražija glava and continue along the ridge and narrow goat paths above 1.800 mamsl all the way to the impressive peak of Midžor where CP-3 will be set at the 53rd km. The refreshment is 1.5 km farther. There are several springs and streams with drinking water along this section (between Vražija glava and Midžor). After that you go along the well know and wide path towards Plaža Restaurant where CP-4 will be set at the 59th km. At CP-4 you will have water and food and less than 5 km to the finish gate – Stara Planina Hotel/ Jabučko ravnište. The time limit is 14 hours from the start.
- CP-2 – Belčin dol 3PM (8 hours from the start)
- CP-4 – Plaža 9PM (14 hours from the start)
- Finish – Jabučko ravnište 10PM (15 hours from the start)
Important note – at this race it is allowed to give up at CP-2!

Survival blanket, cup, rain/wind jacket, mobile phone, headlamp and whistle. Penalties of 30 min will be applied if any of these is missing. If two or more itmes are missing, the disqualification will follow. We recommend that you have poles, but bear in mind that you cannot leave them at the control points. We strongly recommend that you have GPS with the route of the race recorded! It is possible to put a headlamp in the drop-beg for Belčin dol, but after that you will have to wear it, since the control will be at Belčin. We decided to introduce a headlamp for this distance because of the situation that we had with a Bulgarian runner during the seventh edition of the race.
You must be semi-autonomous (water, gels, etc.). All additional information about the race will be presented in the final e-mail and during our technical meeting that will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 7PM at Stara Planina Hotel (one of the conference halls, one hour prior to 34 km runners).
Raising starter packs:
You can get your starting package at the race office at Stara Planina Hotel on Friday, June 5, 2020 from 3PM to 11PM. The packages must be collected in person. Medical certificate is obligatory for this race, no older than one year.
Applications are open from Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 11AM until Monday, May 4, 2020, 4PM (the payment has to be made up to this time).
Within the participant package every runner will get a unique finishers medal, a custom buff and HG active T-shirt if the registration fee is settled up to February 1, 2020. After that date instead of a buff, a cotton T-shirt will come as a gift. The amount of registration fee is 4.800 RSD (EUR 40). As of April 5, 2020 the amount will be 6.000 RSD (EUR 50).
Applications can be submitted through trka.rs portal, as usual www.trka.rs.
The minibus for the participants (20 seats) will operate as it did the year before. Anyone who pays the registration fee and wants to be on the participants bus will have to pay extra 1.500 RSD at the same payment reference number. So, the same day you decide to pay registration fee you can book your seat on the bus immediately with another payment. The payment purpose – registration fee additional payment. The bus leaves on June 5, at 4PM from Kombank Arena parking lot. It will be taking the participants back on Sunday at 12:30PM in front of Stara Planina Hotel. Those who do not make the additional payment within the registration fee will not be included in the bus list.
Each participant must wear their starting number in the visible place, on the chest or on the belt, frontally. It can be placed on the jacket or shirt, but must not be covered by the jacket! The loss of the starting number means automatic disqualification.
Should you have any complaints, contact us at email@example.com within 48 hours after the race. After this time no complaints will be taken into consideration.
Limit: 199 runners at 64 km!
The race will be scored within the Serbian Skyrunning League for 2020 in the sky ultra format. Each race on the Ultra Trail Stara Planine carries 50% more points in the 2020 season
For accommodation for all participant in 64 km race we recommend the mountain lodge near Babin zub at Jabučko ravnište (4 km from the start), Stara Planina Hotel, private houses or a camp just above the start in the forest. If you decide to stay at Crni Vrh village, you will have to provide a vehicle for yourself since the village is 10 km away from the start/finish of the race. If you choose the camp, bear in mind that the beginning of June may be quite fresh at that height, so bring your winter equipment, as well.
More information will follow as of January in our new race guide (Race Guide 2020).
