This is the toughest race and the trail that is in the process of entering the Skyrunning World Cup. A true sky race containing the sections where 4x4 technique is the only option. Technical sections and long climbs. Think carefully, this is a real challenge, tough time limits await you.

Length and height:

There is a total of 33,6 km sa 2.300 m of ascent and descent.

Start of the race

The start is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 8AM from Jabučko ravnište (Stara Planina Hotel) one hour after the races at 64 and 99 km.

Path description

The path leads you up the ski trail across Babin zub and at the very start you will have 2.5 km of ascent. The descent also follows the ski trail by the Plaža Restaurant. There is no control point here any more. After that you will enter the ski trail that leads downwards to the left, vertically. At the end of the ski trail Konjarnik you will come out onto the asphalt but will turn to the forest immediately. There will be a spring at this section, our advice is to use it. Exiting the conifer forest you will come to a pass from where you will have a magnificent view of Žarkova čuka, Dupljak and very steep slopes. You go down to Kozarnica where CP-1 will be set at the 8th km (limit here is 9:45AM). Continue along the macadam path that will at some point turn into goat paths and meanders between conifers. The longest climb is ahead of you (960 m of ascent) after which you will reach Žarkova čuka where CP-2 will be set (12th km). There you will have water. The time limit is 11AM (3 hours from the start). From there, take the macadam road to Midžor and then turn left, onto the goat path to Vučje jame. From there you go to the peak of Dupljak (the only peak over 2,000 mamsl, besides Midžor) where you will come across a slightly more difficult terrain with rocks. At Dupljak (2.034 mamsl) CP-3 will be set at the 18th km of the race. No water or refreshments there. Control point only! Limit here is 12:30PM – 4 hours and 30 min from the start. After that you will go down again towards Vučje jame approaching Midžor from the Bulgarian side, along their border path. After Dupljak there is a harsh and serious climb in front of you. CP-4 will be set at Midžor (2.169 mamsl) at the 23rd km. Water, fruit and sweets will be waiting for you at 24.5 km. No refill. From there you will go down to Žarkova čuka and Plaža by macadam road, where CP-5 will be set at the 29th km. The time limit here is 3:15PM – 7 hours and 15 min from the start. At CP-5 – Plaža you will have water and sweets. You will then turn to the mountain lodge. So, you do not go down the ski trail that you came by. By the way you will come across a spring where you can refill (reccommended if the weather is hot). Very soon you will come to an asphalt road and a parking, follow the markings (there will be a “live crossroad” as well with volunteeers directing you further) just above the hotel and the lodge. You go straight through the rocky groove of Babin zub, where you will have a minor technical section. Once you reach the top you will see the finish (hotel) so just go up the ski trail to the finish gate of Jabučko ravnište (Stara Planina Hotel).
