Ultra Trail Kopren 100 km / 4.000 D+

A real ultra, a combination of trails at 130 and 94 km! Incredible landscapes and a real challenge packed into 100 km with 4.700 m of ascents and descents (at least, that’s what our device has calculated). We are using ITRA assessment, but we thought we should point it out just in case.
We extended the race by that one km to round the distance since we couldn’t maintain it in 2020 and 2021.

Length and height difference:
A total of 100 km with 4.000 m of ascent and descent. 100 km sa 4.900 m uspona i spusta.

Start of the race:
The race starts on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from Jabučko ravnište (Gondola) at 7 AM together with the 64 km race.

Trail description:
The trail remains the same up to Plaža (first 4 km). You can use water, no topping up at Plaža. After that you will enter the well-known macadam path that leads uphill to Midžor, the highest peak of Stara planina where CP-1 will be located. So, from Plaža you will separate from the runners at 64 km. The refreshments are waiting 4 km before Midžor (9th km of the race – water and sweets, no topping up, only limited consumption). From that point you will go left towards Vučije jame. You will then climb Midžor along the very border and at the top CP-1 will be located at the 13th km (control only) and from there continue along the ridge and narrow goat paths above 1.800 mamsl all the way to the imposing peak of Vražija glava. There are several springs and streams with drinking water along the way. Once you reach Vražija glava do not go to Beleđe but continue towards Tri čuke where the “live crossroad” will be set and from there go down to Međa planina at Belčin dol where CP-2 will be located at the 33rd km. There you will have drop-bag, massage, warm food, and refreshments. Continue towards Arbinje and Dojkinci, there is water everywhere, and head along the wide path to CP-3 set at Dojkinci at the 45th km. So just go straight, there is no Sinošćir anymore and do not climb to Klisura from there. Limit at Dojkinci – 11 hours from the start. Mountain lodge, food, refreshments after which you head towards Ponor (part of the trail at which the runners at 130 km descended last year). You will then arrive at CP-4 at Klisura at the 52nd km where water and sweets will be waiting. No more Dabidžin potok, so continue from Klisura uphill towards Stražna čuka and you will arrive directly at Koprenski plateau (the trail from the first edition of 24h Kopren, there you will enter the trail which is one km longer). There you will pass by the spring Tri kladenca where you can top up and continue by narrow border path towards Tri čuke. A “live crossroad” will be set here, after which you will go down to Belčin dol for the second time where CP-5 will be located at the 64th km. The limit here is 15 hours from the start. Again, you will have drop-bag, food, and massage. Go uphill to Beleđe and from there continue along the wide macadam path to Topli dol where CP-6 will be set at the 85th km. The limit here is 20 hours from the start. From there you will have 10 km to CP-7 at Plaža where water and food will be waiting (95th km of the race). And some 5 km more to the finish line across Babin zub.

Time limits:
CP3 – Dojkinci 6 PM (11 hours from the start)
CP5 – Belčin dol 2, 10:30 PM (15 hours and 30 minutes from the start)
CP6 – Topli Do 3 AM, Sunday, June 12 (20 hours from the start)
Finish – Jabučko ravnište 6 AM, Sunday, June 12 (23 hours from the start)
**Important note: At this race you can quit at CP-3, CP-5 and CP-6 (control points with the time limits)!

Race profile and map:
A new evaluation by ITRA is pending but the race also carries the points within the new UTMB system. The profile, map, GPS recording and other details remain the same – https://utmb.world/ ) profil, karta, detalji, GPS zapis su ostali isti – https://tracedetrail.fr/fr/trace/trace/92685

Required equipment:
Survival blanket, cup, rain/wind jacket, mobile phone, head lamp, GPS device and whistle. Penalties of 30 mins will apply if any of these is missing. If two or more items are missing, the disqualification will follow. You must have spare batteries for your GPS device, and if you wear a watch, you must have a power bank in the drop-bag. Taught by the last year's experience, we are introducing a new rule at the longest distance. If something is missing regarding the GPS device, an automatic disqualification will follow (the clock or the device does not work). Stara Planina is unpredictable, last year one could not see 10 m ahead during the day at some sections, let alone at night. When the organizer states that GPS is mandatory, it means that you know how to use it and that it works. There is no longer any question of markings, fog or darkness. Take this seriously. We recommend that you have poles, but bear in mind that you cannot leave them at the stops. You must be semi-autonomous (water, gels, etc.). You can carry your head lamp in your drop-bag until Belčin dol but you have to wear it after that beacuse the control will be performed in Dojkinci. All additional information will be presented through the final e-mail and our Race Guide for 2022. The technical meeting will not be held due to pandemic.

Accommodation:
For accomodation for all the runners at 100 km race we recommend the mountain lodge at Jabučko ravnište near Babin zub (4 km from the start), Stara Planina Hotel, private houses or a camp that is located just above the start in the woods. If you decide to stay at Crni Vrh village, you willl have to provide yourself with a vehicle since the village is 10 km away from the start/finish of the race. If you choose the camp, note that the beginning of June may be quite fresh at that height, so bring your winter equipment.
More information will follow in January in the new race guide.
