This is a real ultra, a combination of the last year trails at 130 and 94 km! Amazing landscapes and a real challenge of 99 km with 4.700 m of ascent and descent (at least, that’s what our device has calculated). ITRA has rated it differently, but we better note it, just in case.
Length and height:
There is a total of 99 km sa 4.000 m of ascent and descent.
Start of the race
The start of the race is scheduled for June 6, 2020 (Saturday) from Jabučko ravnište (Stara Planina Hotel) at 7AM together with the runners at 64 km race.
Up to Plaža (first 4 km) the trail is the same. You may use water, no refill at Plaža allowed. After that, you will embark on the well-known macadam path leading uphill to Midžor, the highest peak of Stara Planina where CP-1 will be set. So, from Plaža you will separate from your colleagues running at 64 km race. The refreshment is 4 km before Midžor (9th km of the race – water and sweets, no refill, only limited consumption). At this point go left towards Vučje jame. You will then go up towards Midžor along the border path where CP-1 will be set at the 13th km (control only) and from there continue by the ridge and narrow goat paths above 1.800 mamsl all the way to the impressive peak of Vražije glave. There will be several springs and streams with drinking water along the way. Once you reach Vražija glava, do not go to Beleđe but continue towards Tri čuke where you will come across a “live crossroad” (with volunteeers directing you further) from where you will go downhill towards Međa planina to Belčin where CP-2 will be set at the 33rd km of the race. There you will have a drop-bag, masaage, warm food, refreshments. You will continue towards Arbinje and Dojkinci (there is water everywhere) going by a broad macadam path to CP-3 Dojkinci at the 45th km of the race. So, just go straight, there is no Sinošćir this time and you are not climbing towards Klisura from there. Time limit at Dojkinci – 11 hours from the start. Mountain lodge, food, refreshments after which you can continue towards Ponor (part of the trail that runners at 130 km race ran last year). At the 52nd km you will reach CP-4 Klisura where water and sweets await you. No Dabidžin potok this time, so form Klisura you continue uphill towards Stražna čuka and directly to Kopren plateau (the path from the first edition of 24h Kopren). You will pass by the spring of Tri kladenca where you can refill and by the narrow border path towards Tri čuke. There you will come to a “live crossroad” again, after which you will go down to Belčin dol for the second time where CP-5 will be set at the 64th km of the race. The limit here is 15 hours from the start, and again there will be a drop-bag, food, massage. You then go uphill to Beleđe and from there you go along the wide macadam path to Topli Dol where Cp-6 will be set at the 84th km of the race. The time limit here is 20 hours from the start. From there on you have 10 km to CP-7 at Plaža where water and food will be waiting for you (94th km of the race). Some 4 km more to the finish gate across the peak of Babin zub.

survival blanket, cup, rain/wind jacket, mobile phone, headlamp, GPS device and whistle. 30 min penalties will apply if any of these items is missing. If two or more items are missing – the disqualification will follow. You must have a spare battery for your GPS device, and if you wear a watch, you must have a power bank in the drop-bag. Last year has taught us a lot, so we are introducing a new rule for the longest distance. If there is something wrong regarding the GPS device this will lead to automatic disqualification (watch or device doesn’t work). Stara planina is quite unpredictable – last year the visability was less than 10 meters at some sections during the day time, let alone at night. If the organizers say that GPS device is obligatory that means that you know how to use it and that it works. No questions regarding the markings, fog or dark will be discussed. Take this seriously. We recommend that you have poles, but bear in mind that you cannot leave them at the control points You must be semi-autonomous (water, gels, etc.). It is possible to put a headlamp in the drop-beg for Belčin dol, but after that you will have to wear it, since the control will be at Dojkinci. All additional information about the race will be presented in the final e-mail and during our technical meeting that will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 7PM at Stara Planina Hotel (one of the conference halls, one hour prior to 34 km runners).
Raising starter packs:
You can get your starting package at the race office at Stara Planina Hotel on Friday, June 5, 2020 from 3PM to 11PM. The packages must be collected in person. Medical certificate is obligatory for this race, no older than one year.

Within the participant package every runner will get a unique finishers medal, Compressport and HG active T-shirt if the registration fee is settled up to February 1, 2020. After that date instead of a HG T-shirt, a cotton T-shirt will come as a gift. The amount of registration fee is 7.200 RSD (EUR 60). As of April 5, 2020 the amount will be 9.600 RSD (EUR 80).
Applications can be submitted through trka.rs portal, as usual www.trka.rs.
The minibus for the participants (20 seats) will operate as it did the year before. Anyone who pays the registration fee and wants to be on the participants bus will have to pay extra 1.500 RSD at the same payment reference number. So, the same day you decide to pay registration fee you can book your seat on the bus immediately with another payment. The payment purpose – registration fee additional payment. The bus leaves on June 5, at 4PM from Kombank Arena parking lot. It will be taking the participants back on Sunday at 12:30PM in front of Stara Planina Hotel. Those who do not make the additional payment within the registration fee will not be included in the bus list.
Each participant must wear their starting number in the visible place, on the chest or on the belt, frontally. It can be placed on the jacket or shirt, but must not be covered by the jacket! The loss of the starting number means automatic disqualification.
Should you have any complaints, contact us at email@example.com within 48 hours after the race. After this time no complaints will be taken into consideration.
Limit: 99 runners at 99 km!
The race will be scored within the Serbian Skyrunning League for 2020 in the sky ultra format. Each race on the Ultra Trail Stara Planine carries 50% more points in the 2020 season
For accommodation for all participant in 99 km race we recommend the mountain lodge near Babin zub at Jabučko ravnište (4 km from the start), Stara Planina Hotel, private houses or a camp just above the start in the forest. If you decide to stay at Crni Vrh village, you will have to provide a vehicle for yourself since the village is 10 km away from the start/finish of the race. If you choose the camp, bear in mind that the beginning of June may be quite fresh at that height, so bring your winter equipment, as well.
More information will follow as of January in our new race guide (Race Guide 2020).
