Sky Ultra Midžor 51 km / 3.100 D+ - Ultra trail Stara planina

We have completely re-packaged the ultra, and made it, for the first time on Stara planina, a real skyrunning ultra! So heavy, dynamic, diverse and of course very beautiful in the untouched part of this mountain giant.
We measured 3,400m of ascent, but as always, ITRA reduced that, but it is realistic to expect that we are somewhere "in between". According to their assessment, it is also in the range of an 80 km ultra-trail.

We are entering the lesser-known part of Stara Planina, the western ridge to the left of Dupljak on new trails!
The race starts on June 14 (Saturday), 2025, from the Jabucko ravniste at 7 a.m. in the morning with a 31 km race (SkyRace). The course has a standard start. The road takes you along the ski track over the top of Babin zub, with 2.5 km of ascent awaiting you. The descent also goes along the ski track next to the Plaza restaurant, there is no control at the first pass.
After that, you join the macadam road that leads down to Topli Dol, where CP-1 is located. You have 14 km to the village (refreshment, check) and as much as 1,000 m of descent. Water is not limited. After that, you start the most difficult and longest ascent of Stara via Udica and Dugi bil to the top of Midzor, with 1,500 m of ascent. From there you join the main trail to Tupanar where CP-2 is at the 24th km, with refreshments and water. Water is limited to 1 liter per participant. There, until Dupljak, you overlap with the SkyRace race.
The limit for that control is 6 hours and 30 minutes from the start (1:30 p.m.). From there, you start downhill towards Vučje jame and Dupljak, where only check point will wait for you. (CP-3 27.5 km from the start). You continue along the ridge towards Golem kamen (Ostra cuka), Repljanska crkva to Sinja cuka along the old (narrow) border paths through the realm of spruce, juniper and large stones. That part is beautiful and extraordinary, a completely different perspective of Stara Planina.
The descent to Velika reka starts on a beautiful single trail through a beech forest where you have water springs and then you join the well-known road to Mirica near CP-4 Golem Reka at 37.5 km. Refreshments and water (unlimited quantity) await you. You will join the sky race track again, which is the same as the sky ultra.
The descent starts on a macadam road where at about 40 km you have a sharp turn to the left, where you begin a steep ascent and join the old path from Kozarnica to the top of Zarkova cuka (but on the other side of the ridge). Save your energy for this climb!
After reaching the top, you follow the well-known and wide path down to Plaza, where CP-5 is at 46.5 km. On CP-5 you have water, refreshments and less than 5 km to the finish line through the groove of Babin zub - to Jabucko ravniste. The limit is 12 hours from the start, i.e. 7:00 p.m.
Time limits:
• CP-2 – Tupanar 13:30 p.m (6:30 hours from the start)
• CP-4 – Golema reka 16:00 p.m (9 hours from the start)
• CP-5 – Plaza 18:00 p.m (11 hours from the start)
• Finish – Jabucko ravnište 7 p.m (12 hours from the start)

** Important notice, you can quit the race at CP-4!

3 ITRA points, course rating (mountain 7), finisher level 360.
The race is also registered for the new UTMB system and carries additional points in the 50K range. Mandatory equipment: survival blanket, cup, rain/wind jacket, mobile phone and whistle. If any item is missing - disqualification. We recommend hiking poles, but you cannot leave them at the points. We especially recommend the GPS with the race route inserted!
You must be semi-autonomous (water, gels, etc.).
All additional information about the race will be presented through the final email and at the technical meeting on June 13, Friday at 21:00.
Pick up of race packages - race office (exact location will be sent in the final email) on Friday, June 13, 2025 from 6 to 11 p.m. Packages must be picked up in person and for this race a medical certificate is mandatory, not older than one year.
Applications open at the beginning of October 2024, and close on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. at 4 p.m. (this means that payments must be made by then). In the race package, the runner receives a unique finisher's medal and an active Woolona t-shirt (top quality). The period of early applications lasts until 10.10.2024. The registration fee is 6,000 dinars until that date (50 euros). After that date, the registration fee is 7,800 dinars (65 euros).
Applications are, as always, on the trks.rs portal. Shuttle bus for participants will not be organized..
Each participant must wear the bib in a visible place, on the front. So between the chest and the hips. On a jacket or T-shirt, it must not be covered! Losing a bib means an automatic disqualification. All complaints are to be sent to our email - skyrunning.serbia@gmail.com within 48 hours after the race. After that, complaints shall not be considered.
Recommended accommodation for all runners is up on the Jabucko ravniste, near Babin zub in the mountain lodge (4 km from the start), in the Stara Planina hotel, private houses or in the camp above the start in the forest. If you decide to go to the village of Crni Vrh, you must provide your own vehicle, because the village is 10 km away from the start/finish. If you choose a camp, the beginning of June can be cold at that altitude, so bring winter equipment. More information in the new Race Guide (Race Guide 2025).
The race is limited to 100 participants.

Awards: Jabučko ravniste on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the start/finish gate. The first three places in the male and female categories receive prizes.

The race will carry special scoring within the Skyrunning League for 2025. All the details will soon be available on our website. In addition to the ITRA, UTMB index, the race has an ISF certificate (special international skyrunning scoring)!
